Silvia Meinita Laurensia. that's my name. my own, real, official, and full name. what a beautiful name, eh?
some of you might ask: "hey, where's your family name?"
now let me explain you about this.
i was born in mojokerto, a small town in indonesia, on may 09, 1985. i was born with the name of Ang ViVi.
i was born as a foreign citizen, or in bahasa we call it WNA (warga negara asing). how come i was born in indonesia as a foreigner? please dont ask me. i dont know why. my parents were also born in indonesia, and even my my grandparents were also born in indonesia. so strange, huh? in our own hometown, which is indonesia, we were still considered as foreigners. in china, a country where some native indonesians think that it's our hometown and we should be there, not in indonesia, we werent considered as their citizen.
when i almost graduated from my elementary school, at that time i was around 12 years old, my parents applied to the government to get the indonesian citizen. i didnt know how the process was, but in my memory, it took a long long time to get that citizen. my parents also applied for me and my sister.
so after i got the indonesian citizen, i was given the opportunity to change my name into an indonesian name. haha. so funny. so, a 12-years-old-girl could change her own name to be whatever she wanted. haha. me and my sister were so excited that we could change our name, so we browsed all the books to get such a beautiful name. haha.
as the conclusion, i changed my name from Ang ViVi into Silvia Meinita Laurensia. my sister changed her name from Yeni into Yenita Elviana Janesky. my father changed his name from Ang Tek Bing into Stefanus Bing Siswanto. and my mother decided to kept her chinese name, which is Njoo Kiem Swat.
accidentally, after i graduated from the elementary school, i went to malang to continue my study, and i had new friends, new situations, etc. my friends in malang didnt know that my name was Ang ViVi. they only knew that my name was Silvia Meinita Laurensia. so everybody started to call me Sil, instead of Vi.
and to answer why i dont have a family name, uhm, actually i dont really know the answer. but at the time we were given the chance to change our name, we didnt know that everybody must have a family name behind. we just chose for the name we liked. and what can u expect a 12-years-old-girl when she was given the opportunity to change her own name? of course she would choose to have a beautiful name like a princess, or an angel in the fairytale.
i do hope that i have a family name. if only i knew that everybody must have a family name.
maybe someday i'll marry a man with a family name behind, so i can adopt his family name into mine. if i marry Brad Pitt, for example, my name will change again into Silvia Meinita Laurensia Pitt. lol. so strange.
